Literacy and Basic Skills are the core services that we offer here at the Niagara West Adult Learning Centre. Funded by the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development, we help learners to improve their literacy and basic skills so that they are able to achieve their goals in the areas of employment, secondary school education, post-secondary education, apprenticeship or independence.

At the Niagara West Adult Learning Centre, we offer:

  • tutors to assist you to improve your reading, writing and numeracy skills
  • small classes focusing on “Digital Literacy” or computer skills – classes include Introduction to Computers, Introduction to Microsoft Word and Introduction to Microsoft Excel
  • one-to-one instruction for specific computer needs including iPads and other tablets
  • pre-employment training
  • transcript assessment to prepare for completing credits necessary for a grade 12 diploma
